Plus, specific studies on some manufacturers are run in order to discover more about their production. For some years, some manufacturers are suspected not to start again a new serialing, but to keep following serial numbers where the previous year stopped. Here they are:

Research number
Maker and year
Serial number switches
1
41cul switch into 42cul
it is supposed 41cul continued in g/h range into 42cul production, 42cul didn't started at "a" letter. To confirm or not, we need exemples of 42cul in letter block a-g.

it is supposed that Berg&Co 1937 continued in e/f range into Berg&Co 38 production, and a new serial string from letter "a" has not been started on the begining of 1938, to confirm or not, we need Berg&Co 1938 in range a/e.
6
fnj40 switch into 41fnj production
at the "m" block range, it is supposed Coppel have continued serialing into 41fnj, and fullended the alphabet from "m" to letter "z", then was started with new string as exist samples in no letter to "c" range, so to confirm, it should not exist exemples in the d/m range marked with 41 fnj.
7
Clemen&Jung 1937 into 1938 production
switch in c/d range, and Clemen&Jung 1938 continue in serialing, so it should be not found Clemen&Jung 1938 in a/c range.
8
Carl Eickhorn 1937 into 1938 production
switch in j/k range, and Carl Eickhorn 1938 continue in serialing from "k" to "u", so it should be not found Carl Eickhorn 1938 in a/j range.
9
P. Weyersberg 1937 into 1938 production

11
Jos.Corts 1937 into 1938 production
switch in e/f range, and Jos.Corts 1938 continue in serialing from "f" to "m", so it should be not found Jos.Corts 1938 in a/e range.
12
Coppel GmbH 1937 into 1938 production
switch in g/h range, and Coppel GmbH 1938 continue in serialing from "h" to "q", so it should be not found Coppel GmbH 1938 in a/g range.
13
F.W Holler 1937 into 1938 production
switch in g/h range, and F.W Holler 1938 continue in serialing from "h" to "m", so it should be not found F.W Holler 1938 in a/g range.
14
S/174K into S/174G production
switch in "b" range, we know exemples of S/174K until 5000b, so it should be not found S/174G before 5000b.
15
S/175K into S/175G production
switch in "b" range, we know exemples of S/175K until 5000b, so it should be not found S/175G before 5000b.
16
S/185K into S/185G production
switch in "a" range, we know exemples of S/185K until 5000a, so it should be not found S/185G before 5000a.
17
ab43 switch into ab44 production
it is supposed that ab43 stopped in the "d" range, and ab44 start serialing on this "d" block and did not start in the no letter block. To confirm or not, we need ab44 range in no letter to "c" block.
18
S/177 1936 switch into 1937 production
at the "a/b" block range, it is supposed 1936 S/177 have continued serialing into S/177 1937, and run the alphabet from "a/b" to letter "c/d", then was started with full manufacturer name E.Pack&Sn in the "d" range, so to confirm, it should not exist exemples in the "no letter/a" range marked with S/177 1937.
19
S/175 1936 switch into 1937 production
at the end of "a" block range, it is supposed 1936 S/175 have continued serialing into S/175 1937, and run the alphabet untill letter "c", then was started with full manufacturer name F.W.Holler in the "d" range, so to confirm, it should not exist exemples in the no letter/early "a" range marked with S/175 1937.
20
S/240 1936 switch into 1937 production
at the end of "a" block range, it is supposed 1936 S/240 have continued serialing into S/240 1937, and run the alphabet untill letter "c", then was started with full manufacturer name F.Herder A Sn. in the "d" range, so to confirm, it should not exist exemples in the no letter/early "a" range marked with S/240 1937 or S/240 1936 after a" block.
21
S/174 1936 switch into 1937 production
in the early "b" block range, it is supposed 1936 S/174 have continued, after 2xxxb serialing into S/174 1937 starting at 3xxxb, and run the alphabet until early letter block "d", then was started with full manufacturer name WKC in the "d" range, so to confirm, it should not exist exemples in the 0/2xxxb  range marked with S/174 1937.
22
S/176 1936 switch into 1937 production
in the  "a" block range, it is supposed 1936 S/176 have continued serialing into S/176 1937 starting in the "8xxxa" range then run the alphabet until end of letter block "b", then was started with full manufacturer name P.Weyersberg in the "b" range, so to confirm, it should not exist exemples in the 0/8xxxa  range marked with S/176 1937.
23
S/155 1936 switch into 1937 production in early  "d" block, we have samples marked S/155 1936 prior to 2526d and we have S/155 1937 continuing from 5521d to letter block "i", and in early "i" block, the code S/155 switched to full name Horster. To confirm, it should not be found bayonets marked S/155 1937 in 0- to early "d" block or any S/155 1936 after "d" block.
24
S/172 1936 switch into 1937 production in early letter "b" block, we have samples marked S/172 1936 prior to 3xxxb and we have S/172 1937 continuing from early "c" range to block "e", then, in early "e" block, S/172 switched to full name Carl Eickhorn. To confirm, it should not be found bayonets marked S/172,1937 in 0-3xxx b range.
25
production  under both
markings: S/178 1937 and full name Gebr.Heller 1937
We have samples of S/178 1937 in no letter and "b" block, but none in "a" block; and we have Gebr.Heller 1937  from "a" block continuing normally to letter "d" (no samples in no letter range), so from both stamps are samples in "b" block. We study the possibility that both strings were separately serialed. To confirm, we must find S/178,37 in "a" block and Gebr.Heller 37 in no letter block. Maybe the WaA could help, we have WaA214 straight wings eagle on Gebr.Heller 37,  one of the first in this form for 1937. Exist a second possibility that S/178,36 were continued into S/178,37 and a new serial string was then started with Gebr.Heller 37 marking.
26
S/238,1937 into Durkopp1937 production
We have only one sample of S/238 1937: 7759a in database, that is not confirmed by picture or a description from BCN member, and we have Durkopp 1937 production samples from no letter to "d" block. So it looks that it existed two separate strings of S/238 1937, or the S/238 sample was from 1936? Any S/238 1937 in any range will be good to obtain informations. WaA229 should be stamped.
27
E.Pack&S 1937 into 1938 production
E.Pack is assumed that it continued serialing from 1937 to 1938, from proof eagles research.
E.Pack production in 1937 evidently goes to "h" block, then probably continued into "j" range in 1938 and then started new serial string with no letter range, then "a" untill "c" block,
and one not confirmed piece in f block, so it would be great to clarify thisou have E.Pack 1938 marked pieces in ranges of series letters d-j.
28
42fze into 43fze
41fze was typical for strange way of stamping the letter under maker code instead of the serial number on blades, but normally stamped letter under the serial number on scabbards. In database we have many 42fze samples in no letter range and some in "c" block, but nothing from "a" and "b" blocks, maybe they used the old stamping system? Other point is a possibility that the production of 42fze switched from "c" series directly into 43fze serialing. So we need any samples in "a" or "b" range stamped 42fze, or any from no letter to "c" block of 43fze production
29
WKC 1937 into WKC 1938 production
WKC production in 1937 evidently goes to "j" block, then probably continued in 1938 in "j/l" blocks until block "n", and then started new
serial string with no letter range, continued with "a" block and followed until "g" block. Identification signs are the Down/straight wings proofs.
Please send details, when you have any WKC 1938 marked pieces in ranges of series letters j-n, important is the form of the proof eagle on pommel.
